Michel has been an avid model railroader and model railroad operator since the early 80's. His present layout, the Adirondack Branch of the Delaware & Hudson is his third major layout. Michel has always focused on operations as a means of bringing together present and future model railroaders and promoting Model Railroading as a quality leisure activity. Michel's second layout, the Ontario Central Railway was published in the July 1992 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman followed by a second article in September 1994. Michel joined the NMRA in July 1997 and is a member of the Alouette Region of the Northeastern Division. In 1998-1999 as Chairman of the Ottawa Valley Model Railroaders, Michel was supportive and instrumental in the rebirth of the St-Lawrence Division of the Niagara Frontier Region. The added value of the NMRA's Achievement Program was perceived as a complement to OVAR's social and promotional activities and as a means of improving the quality of the Ottawa area modelling. Michel was also a member of the St-Lawrence Division's Capital Express the Niagara Frontier Regional Convention held in Ottawa in April 2001. Michel is a recipient of the NMRA's Golden Spike Award.
